  • JK-WeddingDay.com - Personal Use, Website (Design, Domain, Hosting, and Database) This solution was developed for non-business use to save two individuals money and hassle as they planned their wedding day. Thielman Solutions obtained the domain name, designed and hosted the website, and developed several database-driven forms with simplicity and ease-of-use in mind. JK-WeddingDay.com complimented their save the dates and invitations with convenient online features including:

  • An RSVP form with email notifications
  • Information regarding the ceremony, reception, registry, and accommodations for out-of-town guests
  • A comment area where guests can leave comments for the bride, groom, and other guests
  • An area for making song requests to help the bride and groom develop a wedding playlist
  • Databases to help manage attendees, comments, and song requests
  • An interactive slideshow with pictures and descriptions
  • When guests RSVP, their name, email address, and dinner option were stored in a database while email notifications were sent to the bride, groom, and guest. The database acted as a self-maintained guest list with easy access to contact information for sending reminders and updates to attendees. Also, it stored all of the song requests, making it easy to print off a list of songs and artists for the DJ. The bride and groom had also chosen to use an online registry to help pay for their honeymoon instead of registering for gifts from stores. A link to the online registry was provided on the website, making it easy for guests to select the perfect gift.

  • SGGE AutoUpdate - South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), Excel Macro SGGE AutoUpdate is an Excel Macro that was developed for SFWMD to assist engineers with analysis of historic and real-time well data. The project involved a series of wells in the Southern Golden Gate Estates (SGGE) area of Southwest Florida that were monitored for groundwater and surface water level fluctuations and quality. Before the Macro was developed, scientists at SFWMD used to dedicate one week every six months to manually perform the following tasks:

  • Retrieve well information from an online database (DBHYDRO)
  • Configure the raw CSV files into usable data that could be imported into Excel spreadsheets
  • Analyze the data for over twenty-five wells, one spreadsheet at a time
  • Generate plots for each well to represent:
  • Groundwater and surface water elevations in relation to Northern and Southern transects
  • Water depth in relation to current and original ground elevations at well locations
  • Groundwater and surface water salinity, opacity, and temperature
  • A comparison of groundwater and surface water quality
  • Format spreadsheets for printing on large paper
  • Archive raw data and organize results of the analysis
  • After observing a SFWMD engineer complete this process manually for a few wells, it became apparent that the tasks could all be performed much more efficiently with the use of an Excel Macro. The SGGE AutoUpdate Macro reduced the amount of time necessary to complete these tasks from approximately one week down to less than ten minutes. This allowed SFWMD to perform the analysis more often and still use less labor hours than they had originally dedicated to the task. SFWMD went on to use this method for monitoring the wells as part of several projects under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The Macro was also recognized and borrowed by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida to perform various groundwater studies in the area.

  • TS Project Manager - Technical Commissioning Inc, Windows Executable Managing and organizing data for complex projects continues to be obstacle for many businesses. Technical Commissioning, a small business specializing in retro-commissioning of outdated air conditioning systems, was experiencing difficulties with relaying information to and from several field technicians. The field technicians performed most of their work on military bases where there was often no public internet connection. This forced them to work on separate files and upload the files daily or weekly to an FTP server to be downloaded and organized by office staff. Needless to say, they quickly ran into complications involving the volume of work that was being uploaded and downloaded to the remote server. Thielman Solutions was able to develop a Windows Executable program to replace their multiple files with one simple application. The application behaved similarly to the Excel forms that the field technicians had become familiar with, and had the added capability of generating and automatically uploading a single, compressed data text file. This application could then be installed on all of the field laptops and office computers so that all of the employees had access to the proprietary data files. The new process instantly reduced the amount of files being uploaded and downloaded, simplified the task of combining and organizing the field work, and added a layer of protection to the data transfer procedure. Also, the client was able to specify time-saving functions, such as a project explorer window, individual input forms, and customizable views that were not available in the old Excel forms.
